Volunteering at Day Centres
Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland urgently needs the support of volunteers at its weekly Acorn Day Centre in Oakham.
Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland provides this service as part of the Rutland Community Wellbeing Service and on behalf of Rutland County Council.
The Acorn Day Centre offers a vital service to local older people who would otherwise not be able to get out of their homes and enjoy the company of others.
For many years, the Acorn Day Centre has been running with the support of a small team of volunteers. Unfortunately, some of these volunteers are no longer able to continue.
Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland would like to hear from people who could give a little time to assist our staff. This could include helping out with:
- Serving meals and refreshments
- Supporting people to take part in a wide range of activities
- Providing our driver with support on our minibus
Antony Massey, Service Manager at Age UK Leicester Shire and Rutland, commented:
“Our day care services provide many local older people with their only opportunity to get out of their home and enjoy the company of others in a community setting. I am concerned that without the additional support of volunteers, we will struggle to provide a truly person centred service. I am hopeful that there are many local people whose help will make all the difference. “
